Non-surgical Lip Enhancement Gives You Plump, Fuller Lips

A close-up of a woman's full lips

Are you unhappy with thin or wrinkled lips? Dr. Roger J. Oldham offers Juvéderm® as a lip augmentation option at his Bethesda, MD, cosmetic practice, serving the greater Washington, DC, area.

What is Lip Augmentation?

This minimally invasive treatment can add volume to the lips for a fuller, more attractive pout. As we age, our lips thin, lose volume, and may even begin to wrinkle. A lip enhancement can minimize these changes to create a more youthful appearance. For patients with naturally thin lips, a lip enhancement can create more desirable volume.

Juvéderm in particular is an FDA-approved dermal filler that uses a biocompatible substance called hyaluronic acid to increase volume in and around the face.

Candidacy & Benefits

Juvéderm's biocompatibility make it suitable for most adult candidates. Two of the most noticeable benefits include:

  • Reduced allergic reaction: Because Juvéderm is derived from a substance that occurs naturally within the human body, allergy tests are not required before performing the injections.
  • Short-term effects: Since the body absorbs it naturally over time, Juvéderm is an ideal treatment for testing out fuller lips without committing to them. Patients can enjoy greater volume for up to nine months before the effects gradually fade away.

Juvéderm is a very accessible treatment. However, patients should keep in mind that results are sometimes more noticeable for those with at least some definition in their lips already.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

After a consultation to discuss your expectations and ensure that Juvéderm is the right treatment for your goals, we will either proceed directly to treatment or set up a separate appointment. Injections typically take less than thirty minutes to complete.

At the beginning of your visit, we will provide you with either a local or a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. While the total number of injections will depend on the results you are hoping for, the steps of the procedure are the same.

We can either carry out the entire procedure all at once or we can space it out over several appointments so that the change is more gradual.

Patients should expect some swelling after their visit, but the results should be immediately evident. If you prefer, we can either carry out the entire procedure all at once or we can space it out over several appointments so that the change is more gradual.

In the days after your appointment, it is important that you keep your lips clean. Patients should avoid lipstick, chapstick, and other products for at least a day or two.

Once you the side effects have worn off, you can enjoy fuller lips for as long as six months to a year. If you are happy with the outcome of the treatment, we can retreat the lips once the effects have faded to maintain your new volume.

Which Treatment is Right for You?

If you are unhappy with the thinness of your lips and desire a fuller pout, you may be a candidate for a lip enhancement with Juvederm. Contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Oldham and determine if this treatment is right for your aesthetic goals.
