Face Lift

The face—at once expressive and central to our identity. Our face is important to the way others view us and to the way we view ourselves. In today’s appearance conscious society, a subtle face lift to correct sagging in the lower face or a tired appearing midface can be an important means of taking care of ourselves.

A face lift at our Bethesda, Maryland practice can smooth out wrinkles in the mid and lower face, eliminate sagging or excess skin around the jowls, and tighten underlying facial muscles to give a firmer appearance. For patients seeking more complete facial rejuvenation, Dr. Oldham might suggest eyelid surgery and a forehead lift, in combination with the face lift.

When performing a face lift, Dr. Oldham starts from each person’s unique anatomy and artfully reshapes the face’s youthful contours. Using meticulous technique, his approach carefully re-drapes the facial skin in a natural manner, avoiding any appearance of being too tight or stretched. He also takes great care in planning his incisions to ensure they are discreetly hidden behind the hairline or in the folds of the skin.

Patients with minimal sagging and wrinkling may be good candidates for a mini-face lift. Mini-face lift is a less invasive surgery involving smaller incisions and a faster recovery time. For patients in their forties and fifties, a mini-face lift is often chosen as a way to maintain youthful features and stay one step ahead of the aging process.

If you would like to maintain the natural beauty and youthful lines of your face, a face lift at our Bethesda, Maryland practice might be the right choice for you. For further information about face lift surgery or to set up a consultation, contact The Practice of Dr. Roger J. Oldham today.

Neck Lift

Loose, hanging skin on the neck is a distinguishing feature of age. As we grow older, the muscles in the neck can weaken and cause skin and other tissue to sag. Excess fat beneath the chin often makes the problem worse. This loose tissue on the neck can give us an aged appearance, even when the facial features remain youthful.

A neck lift targets this loose tissue and restores a youthful contour to the neck. Excess skin is surgically removed. The underlying support muscles are tightened and any excess fat can be removed with liposuction. The procedure is performed through small, discrete incisions tucked under the chin and behind the ears so visible scarring is negligible.

A simple neck lift can make a dramatic improvement in how youthful a patient looks overall. A neck lift can be performed as an isolated procedure but is often combined with a Face lift for patients who have developed laxity in their lower cheeks and jowls. In addition, patients looking to improve the contour of both their neck and chin may combine a neck lift with chin augmentation. This combined procedure produces a strong, youthful profile. To find out whether you are a good candidate for a neck lift, contact our plastic surgery practice today.

Forehead Lift

Perhaps it is not the lower face that has begun to show signs of aging, but rather the upper. Deeply etched lines across the forehead or heavy, sagging brows can greatly contribute to a tired or aged appearance.

A forehead lift can smooth out these furrows and raise the brows back to their youthful position, achieving a subtle yet powerful improvement. Following a forehead lift, patients have a more open, alert, and refreshed appearance.

Dr. Oldham performs endoscopic (minimally invasive) forehead lift surgery. Endoscopic surgery involves making minimal incisions behind the hairline through which a miniature camera and delicate instruments are placed. Dr. Oldham can then perform the surgery with the aid of images projected onto a television screen without requiring a larger incision.

Depending on your needs, your forehead lift may be combined with eyelid surgery, skin resurfacing, or BOTOX® injections to further enhance your results. Dr. Oldham would be happy to discuss our endoscopic forehead lift and upper face rejuvenation options to determine which ones might be best for you. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes are our most expressive feature. If your eyes are framed by sagging upper eyelids or deep bags underneath, you may be expressing a more tired or aged appearance than you feel. For patients with this problem in the Bethesda, Maryland, area, eyelid surgery with Dr. Oldham offers an excellent solution.

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to lighten sagging upper lids or reduce puffiness beneath the eyes by removing excess fat and skin. It may also be done as a medically necessary surgery to remove sagging upper eyelid tissue blocking a patient’s vision.

Dr. Oldham performs both upper and lower eyelid surgery and is meticulous about his incision placement. With upper eyelid surgery, he hides the incision within the natural crease of your lid. With lower eyelid surgery, he places the incision within the skin crease below the lashes so that the incision line is virtually imperceptible.

Performed as an outpatient procedure at several convenient locations in and around Bethesda, Maryland, eyelid surgery is a delicate, artful procedure that results in a bright, clear-eyed appearance. Express the way you truly feel. Contact our Bethesda, Maryland, plastic surgery practice today for more information about eyelid surgery.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is about making the choice to enhance your current facial features and feel more comfortable with your appearance. Because the nose is such a prominent feature, many people wish they could make small changes to the way it looks, perhaps by removing an unattractive bump, subtly altering the shape, or reducing the size to better compliment the face.

Rhinoplasty at our Bethesda, Maryland practice can allow you to choose the nose you wish you had been born with. The process begins with an in-depth consultation to discuss your surgical goals and expectations. Together, you and Dr. Oldham will decide exactly what changes to make to your nose and what outcome you want to achieve.

When performing rhinoplasty, Dr. Oldham focuses on achieving your goals while creating a natural looking nose that is in harmony with the rest of your face. His conservative and artistic approach ensures your nose will be tailored to your unique facial structure and not look overdone.

Dr. Oldham would be happy to show you before-and-after pictures of previous rhinoplasties he has performed, answer any questions you have, and discuss your aesthetic goals. Ear Contouring (Otoplasty)

Ear contouring, or otoplasty, is a relatively simple outpatient surgery performed to secure protruding or overly prominent ears closer to the head. Commonly performed on children as young as five or on adults, ear contouring can significantly improve a young person’s self-esteem during an impressionable time of life.

This surgery involves making a small incision behind the ear and removing excess cartilage. The ear is then sutured closer to the head and allowed to heal in the new position. Ear contouring is performed as an outpatient procedure and requires a recovery time of approximately one week or less.

Dr. Oldham also performs ear surgery on patients of all ages to correct the appearance of oversized, misshapen, or poorly developed ears. If you would like to learn more about ear contouring surgery for you or your child, please contact our plastic surgery practice in Bethesda, Maryland, today.

Chin Augmentation

A well-defined chin helps balance the nose and profile, creating overall symmetry in the face. By contrast, an underdeveloped chin can make the nose look more prominent than it actually is or undermine an otherwise balanced face.

Dr. Oldham performs customized chin augmentation surgery with high-grade facial implants to strengthen the lower face and give a strong, confident profile. Facial implants are placed through incisions inside the mouth or underneath the chin.

Lip Enhancement (Fillers)

Full, gently curving lips are flattering and highly desirable in our culture. If you are not graced with naturally full lips, lip enhancement with dermal fillers can add volume and shapeliness to your smile. Depending on your needs and preferences, you can choose from a wide variety of lip fillers at our practice, including collagen, Restylane®, and fat transfer.

Collagen gives our skin and lips their natural structure and fullness. This collagen, which is gradually lost as we grow older, can be returned through collagen injections. Results typically last three months, and a skin test for compatibility is required prior to treatment.

Restylane® is a clear gel composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally interspersed with collagen in the human body. Restylane® has proven to add shapeliness and contour to lips for as long as six to nine months and can be repeated as desired. No allergy test is required. Learn more about Restylane® injections.

Fat Injections use your body’s own natural fat stores to replenish lost softness in the face. Fat harvested from another area of the body is purified and injected into the lips. Since this is your own tissue, there is no risk of allergic reaction, and results can often be very long lasting. Learn more about fat injections with fat transfer.

Find out how you can have full, inviting lips. Dr. Oldham would be happy to discuss our various lip enhancement options with you to help you determine the right one. Contact our Bethesda, Maryland practice today for more information.

Fat Grafting

Not all fat is bad. In fact, fat is what gives the face its youthful softness and fullness. As we age, we slowly lose this youthful plumpness. Faces become more sharply angular and develop lines and creases in places where fat has disappeared. Returning lost fat to the folds and contours of the face is one of the most effective means of restoring a youthful countenance.

Dr. Oldham restores lost fat to his patients’ faces through a process known as fat grafting. During fat grafting, unneeded fat is transferred from one area of a patient’s body – typically the abdomen or thighs – to the face. The fat is removed from the donor area using liposuction, purified in a centrifuge, and then injected into targeted areas of the face.

Fat can be used to improve the appearance of a number of problem areas. It can fill out hollows in the face, restore youthful fullness in the upper cheeks, create fuller lips, and smooth out the hard lines of the cheekbones and jaw.

Results from fat grafting differ depending on the patient and the areas filled. Most patients experience results that are very long lasting. For more information about fat grafting, please contact our Bethesda, Maryland cosmetic surgery practice today.

Brow Lift

The area from our eyebrows to our hairline is a very expressive part of our face. Signs of aging often affect the upper portion of our face, resulting in horizontal creases along the forehead, vertical lines between the eyes, and sagging or furrowed eyebrows. This can result in a tired or annoyed appearance. A brow lift is a surgical procedure that is designed to rejuvenate the area by minimizing lines and lifting the eyebrow and eyelid area. With this procedure, Dr. Oldham can help you achieve a more refreshed, natural look that transforms the way you are perceived.
