Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is usually recommended for patients who have small amounts of excess abdominal skin and fat, and do not have significantly protruding abdominal muscles. Compared to a traditional tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck is less invasive and involves the removal of less tissue. Additionally, no incision is made around the navel - only smaller incisions are made near the pubis. For these reasons, this procedure is sometimes known as a “scarless tummy tuck.”

Mini Tummy Tuck Candidacy

During your consultation, Dr. Oldham will review your medical history and cosmetic goals to help determine if a mini tummy tuck is the right procedure for you. You may be a good candidate if you have:

  • Excess skin and some fat deposits on the lower abdomen
  • Stretched muscles below the navel
  • Already achieved your weight goal
  • No future planned pregnancies
  • Overall good health

As a mini tummy tuck is considered a body sculpting procedure and not a weight loss remedy, it is important that candidates be near their ideal body weight. Any significant weight gains following the procedure can undermine the results.

During the Procedure

After you are made comfortable with a local anesthetic or general anesthesia, Dr. Oldham will make an incision on the lower part of your abdomen. Unlike a traditional tummy tuck, no incisions will be made around the belly button. Through the incision, the abdominal muscles will be tightened and excess skin excised. Finally, the skin will be stretched evenly over the stomach, and the sutures carefully closed. For more comprehensive results, liposuction may be used to remove stubborn fat deposits.

Recovering from a Mini Tummy Tuck

Recovery times will depend on each patient, with most needing a week or two off of work to heal. The first few days following surgery, patients will probably experience some discomfort and swelling. This should subside significantly in the coming week or two. After this initial healing period, it is advised that patients remain mobile as much as possible, but avoid strenuous activity for a couple more weeks. Full post-operative recovery usually takes about a month, at which time the results of your procedure will be visible.
