Are You a Candidate for Chin Liposuction?

Woman with slender neckline holds her chin with her handDo you struggle to attain contours and definition in certain trouble spots on your body? Even with a healthy diet and regular exercise, many people are left with stubborn pockets of fat. Dr. Roger Oldham can target those problem areas using a very effective fat-removing procedure called liposuction

Fat deposits below and near the chin can leave your face looking ill-defined. To restore attractive contours to your face and neck, Dr. Oldham can carefully target pockets of fat using safe and effective liposuction. Many of our patients in Bethesda, MD and Washington, DC, have found that chin liposuction removes several years off the appearance of their faces.

Candidacy Considerations for Chin Liposuction

Candidates for chin liposuction wish to remove the appearance of a double chin. A slender neckline is important for framing how your face is perceived. Liposuction offers an ideal cosmetic solution to chin and neck fat deposits since the procedure allows Dr. Oldham to target problem areas without the need for invasive surgeries like a facelift.

Chin Liposuction Consultation

Your candidacy for chin liposuction will be established during your consultation with Dr. Oldham. During your visit to our Bethesda office, Dr. Oldham will perform a comprehensive evaluation and discuss your treatment options.

Combining Complementary Treatments

Some patients may benefit from combining chin liposuction with other surgical treatments. Our Bethesda plastic surgery center also offers non-surgical skin treatments that can be performed before your procedure or after you have recovered from liposuction.

Health and Skin Laxity Considerations

Candidates for this procedure should be within 25 pounds of their body weight goal and in good general health. Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment, but it does deliver drastic cosmetic results.

Dr. Oldham will consider how firm your skin is before recommending liposuction. Extreme sagging may require facelift surgery or an alternative treatment. Liposuction can result in slightly firmer skin, but the procedure cannot address significant skin laxity.

If you have loose folds of skin near your chin, you may be a better candidate for a neck lift. A neck lift surgically removes excess skin to restore a youthful contour around the chin and neck area.

Procedure Overview

Once your candidacy has been established, a date will be set for your chin liposuction. The outpatient procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and takes one to two hours to complete.

Dr. Oldham will make small incisions on or near your chin. A special device called a cannula is then inserted through the incision to reach pockets of fat. The tip of the cannula liquefies fat that is pumped out through an attached vacuum pump.

Once the chin fat has been removed, any incisions will be sutured. You will be given recovery instructions and asked to fully rest for the first day after surgery. The full cosmetic benefits of chin liposuction may take up to six months to be fully realized.

The best results are gained by combining your cosmetic benefits with a commitment to living a healthy lifestyle through exercise, healthy eating, and avoiding excess sunlight.
