Breast Implants: Saline or Silicone? Dr. Roger J. Oldham plastic surgeon discusses

Dr. Roger J. Oldham is a board certified plastic surgeon practicing in Bethesda, Maryland. For the past 25+ years, Dr. Oldham has performed a wide range of cosmetic surgical procedures like facelift, abdominoplasty, and breast implant surgery (also known as breast augmentation).  Breast augmentation is ideal for female patients who experience dissatisfaction with the size of their breasts in proportion to their body’s frame.  With the use of FDA-approved implants, Dr. Oldham can care for patients by augmenting the size of the breasts.

The use of both silicone and saline breast implants is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Saline implants are filled with saltwater and silicone implants contain a dense gel-like substance likened to a gumdrop.  The most recent model of silicone breast implants, therefore contain this more natural-feeling gel instead of a liquid which can leak.  The silicone substance also prevents the rippling of the implant which sometimes occurs with saline implants. Both, of course, are available in multiple sizes and shapes for your unique needs.  See excellent examples in these patients before and after breast augmentation surgery with Dr. Roger J. Oldham.

Dr. Oldham looks forward to answer more of your questions during your breast augmentation consultation. Contact our Bethesda plastic surgery practice to schedule your initial appointment.
