Lower Abdomen body contouring with Mini Tummy Tuck, in Bethesda, Maryland

Board certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Roger J. Oldham commit their career to caring for patients through the latest plastic surgery technology and the highest excellence in patient care and surgical quality.  Dr. Oldham has more than 25 years of experience to inform his care and his practice.  This valuable experience means Dr. Oldham is well practiced in a number of surgical procedures and techniques, including body contouring(liposuction, tummy tuck, and mini tummy tuck).  While tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and mini tummy tuck (modified abdominoplasty) treat primarily the abdominal muscles and tissues, liposuction can complement these surgeries by additional contouring in areas around the flanks, hips, thighs, and calves.  Combining surgeries is incredibly common.

Aside from combining surgeries, liposuction actually plays a bigger role in the abdominoplasty procedure than one might suspect.  Whether Dr. Oldham is treating the entire abdominal wall (as with the full abdominoplasty/tummy tuck) or just the lower abdomen below the naval (as with modified abdominoplasty/ mini tummy tuck, liposuction is used to assist the procedure.  After the initial incision is made along the pelvic curve (so as to be well-hidden by underwear and bathing suits), liposuction is used to remove excess fatty tissue from the abdominal muscle wall.  The abdominal muscles which often drift apart and weaken with weight retention in the abdomen.  By removing the fat around the muscles, Dr. Oldham is able to access the muscle wall and re-suture it together for core strength.  Patients’ results include a trim abdomen but also a sleek appearance that is primed for continued health and exercise, as seen in these patients before and after a modified abdominoplasty (mini tummy tuck).

Not sure which body contouring procedure would work best for your physique? Dr. Oldham can advise you during your personal consultation where you will meet with the doctor to discuss goals and desires from the procedure in addition to surgical details of the procedure itself.
