Dr. Roger J. Oldham is a board certified plastic surgeon with more than 25 years of experience caring for women in the Bethesda and Washington D.C. areas who come to him seeking change. Patients are all unique, with unique desires about their appearance, so Dr. Oldham offers a wide range of procedures including rhinoplasty, facelift, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), neck lift, and even Juvederm/Radiesse injections, earlobe repair, and mole removal. Most popular among female patients, however, is breast surgery procedures, including breast augmentation, breast lift, and combined breast lift and augmentation (with saline or silicone implants). In the third and final part of this three-part blog series, Dr. Oldham will answer your questions about combined breast lift and augmentation surgery.
Over the previous decade, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in cooperation with Mentor (breast implant producer) conducted a study to determine the effects of silicone breast implants on breast augmentation patients. And when the data came in, the results confirmed the total safety of silicone implants. Dr. Oldham shares this information with patients because choosing between silicone and saline implants is one choice you will have when discussing combined breast lift and augmentation surgery. Combined breast lift and augmentation is a unique procedure. Like a breast reduction, breast tissue is removed, but only excess skin that caused drooping. Like a breast augmentation, the size of the breasts is augmented, but through a “keyhole” incision that allows Dr. Oldham to relocate the nipple which may have drifted with sagging skin over time. The results can sometimes be dramatic for patients, who often say they love their new breasts. Some of those patients are pictured in these photos before and after combined breast lift and breast augmentation.
