Is a Rhinoplasty considered an “extreme makeover”? Dr. Roger J. Oldham, Bethesda Plastic Surgeon answers your FAQ

Over his 25+ years of experience as a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Roger J. Oldham has seen many fads come and go, and extreme makeovers have been one of the more prevalent in recent years.  For experienced surgeons like Dr. Oldham, the care of the patient comes first, and that means considering what is best for you.  As a surgeon, Dr. Oldham is qualified to perform both reconstructive treatments (mole removal, skin cancer removal, MOHS repair, earlobe repair, etc.) and cosmetic procedures (breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, facelift, liposuction, and rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a particularly prominent procedure in Dr. Oldham’s practice, as women seek surgery to help balance facial proportions and restore natural contours to the nose’s shape.

So-called “extreme makeovers” are not typically advised by plastic surgeons and are not to be confused with traditional procedures like rhinoplasty which are often performed singularly.  While cosmetic procedures can be and are often combined to achieve the desired result (combined breast lift and augmentation, for example), electing for multiple, unrelated procedures is less commonly performed.  For a large majority of plastic surgeons—Dr. Oldham included—a rhinoplasty procedure is performed by itself to ensure the most effective results. Dr. Oldham’s success with rhinoplasty is evident in these pictures before and after nose reshaping rhinoplasty where you can see the natural-looking results that serve to compliment patients’ natural facial features.

As you visit our photo gallery or browse your favorite magazine, try to identify a nose shape that you can really identify with.  This prepares you for your personal rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Oldham so that you can clearly communicate the procedure’s desired result.
