Dr. Roger J. Oldham is a board certified plastic surgeon with more than 25 years of experience serving patients of Bethesda and the greater Washington area. Aside from more invasive plastic surgery procedures, Dr. Oldham also specializes in skin lesion removal. Dr. Oldham’s Bethesda practice hosts the Bethesda Surgery Center, an outpatient facility that allows for quick and convenient mole removal in-office so that you can rest easy about your skin’s health.
As we get older, our skin ages as well and moles and other skin lesions can develop over time. We barely notice them, unless we are vigilant. There are three types of skin lesions to look out for: benign pigmented skin lesions (most commonly referred to as moles), benign non-pigmented skin lesions, and various types of skin cancer. Skin lesions can range from small, raised pigmented bumps (moles) no larger than a pencil eraser, to lentigo (age spots, sun spots, liver spots), to non-pigmented lesions like cysts, lipoma, warts, or skin tags. Pigmented lesions can change or evolve into pre-cancer and non-pigmented lesions, while not dangerous to your health, can be bothersome and require treatment. Dr. Oldham prefers to treat most larger skin lesions with excision and repair which allows him to fully remove the lesion, suture the skin with minimimal scarring, and submit the sample for pathological analysis.
