Mole removal performed in-office with Dr. Roger J. Oldham of Bethesda

Dr. Roger J. Oldham, a board-certified plastic surgeon, is concerned about his patients’ overexposure to the sun. Patients seeking mole removal may have been dealing with moles, lesions, sun spots, and freckles that have changed appearance recently. Dr.  Oldham’s plastic surgery practice in Bethesda and Dr. Oldham’s Bethesda Surgery Center is an outpatient surgery center within the office of Dr. Oldham, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon, specializing in mole removal.

There are many different techniques for mole removal, depending on the history of the lesion, the size and nature of the growth. The techniques most commonly employed are: surgical excision and repair, shave excision, freezing (cryotherapy), burning (electrocautery), and laser treatment. Surgical excision and repair is the most common procedure performed by Dr. Roger J.  Oldham. In order to achieve complete removal, to minimize the chance of a recurrence and to have adequate tissue for evaluation, lesion excision and repair is usually the most advantageous technique. The lesion is removed and the skin edges are brought together in a straight line with fine suture material giving the best chance for an inconspicous scar. The lesion can then be submitted for pathologic analysis.

In his Bethesda, Maryland practice and surgery center, Dr. Oldham sees patients from Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. He sees patients from Chevy Chase, Kensington, Potomac, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Silver Spring, Northern Virginia, Fairfax, Reston, McLean, Arlington, Annandale, Chantilly, Woodbridge, Manassas, and Washington DC.
