BOTOX® Cosmetic

Pure, targeted, effective wrinkle reduction. At our Bethesda, Maryland, practice – near Northern Virginia and Washington, DC – BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of our most popular nonsurgical methods of controlling facial lines and wrinkles, and for good reason. This safe and proven treatment effectively relaxes the action of facial muscles that cause wrinkles to form.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified neural toxin derived from the botulinum bacteria. It works by temporarily relaxing the tiny facial muscles responsible for forming crows feet, frown lines, and other wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.

When injected in minute quantities into targeted muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic successfully controls the wrinkle causing action of these muscles for up to six months. Treatments may be repeated as required.

Performed at our offices in Bethesda, Maryland – convenient to Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia – BOTOX® injections can be completed over your lunch hour. Contact The Practice of Dr. Roger J. Oldham for more information about BOTOX® Cosmetic today.

Restylane®/Juvéderm™/Radiesse® (Fillers)

Sometimes, all you need is a little lift. Adding volume beneath a deep facial fold or winkle can give your skin the added lift it needs to smooth away those lines.

Clear and naturally based, Restylane® & Juvederm™ are FDA-approved dermal fillers that work to fill and smooth out deep facial lines and wrinkles. Composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body among collagen fibers, Restylane® & Juvederm™ require no allergy testing prior to treatments.

Restylane® & Juvederm™ injections at our Bethesda, Maryland, practice can greatly improve the appearance of deep lines between the nose and mouth (the nasolabial folds) or create natural fullness in the lips. They are also commonly used to help soften fine lines around the mouth. Results last as long as six to nine months and can be repeated as desired.

It’s easier than you think to give yourself a little lift. Learn more about Restylane® & Juvederm™ treatments in Maryland by contacting our cosmetic surgery practice today.

Radiesse™ (Radiance)

Radiesse™ is an exciting new skin filler for deep facial lines, such as the nasolabial folds between the nose and lips. This filler is also effective at improving the appearance of acne scars and returning contour to the cheeks.

Formerly called Radiance, Radiesse™ is composed of calcium and phosphate ion particles (the same mineral composition as human bone) suspended in a biocompatible gel. This creamy filler forms a matrix that is gradually filled by the body’s own tissue before biodegrading after several years. Because of this biocompatibility, the product requires no allergy testing prior to treatment.

Radiesse™ can be injected in about a half an hour and has proven remarkably long lasting, with typical results lasting one to two years or longer. To find out more about Radiesse™, contact our cosmetic surgery practice today.

Laser Treatment

Laser Hair Removal

Lasers offer patients an effective way to permanently reduce unwanted hair on the face and body. Laser hair removal is a versatile procedure that can target large areas on the back, chest, and legs as easily as small, precise areas such as the upper lip or bikini line. The power of the laser is harnessed to destroy hair growth at its roots, giving beautiful, long lasting results.

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment within hair follicles. This pigment absorbs the laser energy, producing heat that then destroys the follicle. In order to be a candidate for laser hair removal, therefore, your hair must be darker than your skin. This ensures that the darker colored hair follicles absorb the laser energy, rather than your skin.

For best results, laser hair removal generally requires several treatment sessions. This is because laser energy destroys hairs only while they are in their growth stage. Hair goes through three distinct stages: growing (anagen phase), resting (telogen phase), and transition (catagen phase). Since not all hairs are in the growth stage at the same time, more than one treatment session is necessary to completely remove the unwanted hair.

Laser hair removal involves minimal discomfort and can be completed over your lunch hour. To learn more about laser hair removal or find out if you are a good candidate, contact The Practice of Dr. Roger J. Oldham today.

Laser Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins are tiny, red surface veins that radiate outwards from a single point, resembling a spider shape. They may also take the form of a web or of a tree with multiple branches. These veins can develop on any part of the body, but most commonly appear on the face.

Because spider veins are so fine and superficial, they respond particularly well to laser treatment. During this procedure, the laser is calibrated to determine the proper depth of penetration and then directed onto the skin above the spider veins. The red veins absorb the laser energy, causing the veins to shrink and eventually disappear.

Immediately following laser treatment, your spider veins may appear darker. This is normal. Over the next several weeks the veins will slowly lighten and disappear. Additional treatment sessions may be required for best results, but for the fine capillaries of the face, one treatment will often suffice.

Laser spider vein treatment is most appropriate for fair skinned individuals. To find out if you are a good candidate for this treatment, contact our Bethesda, Maryland, cosmetic surgery practice today.

Laser Age Spot Treatment

Age spots are flat, brown spots that sometimes form on the skin in people over age 40. These spots most commonly appear on the hands and face, but can form in any area exposed to sunlight. Unlike moles, which are determined by genetics, age spots are the product of many years of sun exposure.

Laser treatment is a highly effective means of removing age spots. The brown pigment in the age spot absorbs the energy of the laser, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. The heat that is produced by this absorption destroys the pigmented cells, which causes them to break up and slowly disappear.

Following treatment, you may experience slight redness around the treatment area. Discomfort, however, is minimal and you may resume your normal activities immediately.

Facial Rejuvenation

Microdermabrasion

Are you looking for healthy, glowing skin with an easy, non-invasive treatment? Then look no further that microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a safe, nonsurgical method of exfoliating damaged outer layers of skin to reveal fresh, new skin beneath.

During microdermabrasion, our certified esthetician uses a handheld device to polish your skin with a stream of fine, sterilized crystals. These crystals, along with the dead and damaged skin cells, are then vacuumed cleanly away.

Microdermabrasion effectively reduces fine lines, age spots, blemishes, and dry or scaly skin. It unblocks clogged pores and helps clear toxins and other impurities from the skin. It also reduces the size of enlarged pores and encourages cellular turnover, so your skin will radiate health and vitality.

Microdermabrasion is a fast and convenient treatment. It produces immediately smoother and softer skin with minimal, if any, discomfort. While several procedures are required over a period of time to achieve the optimal result, there is no downtime after a microdermabrasion and you may return to your normal activities immediately afterward. Make-up can be applied directly after treatment, so you can get on with your day.

If you are interested in learning more microdermabrasion, or in consulting with our certified esthetician to find out which facial rejuvenation treatments might be best for you, contact The Practice of Dr. Roger J. Oldham today.

Professional Skin Care Products

In order to enhance and augment the effects of microdermabrasion, our esthetician recommends a number of skin care products ranging from cleansers to moisturizers to medical strength anti-aging treatments which can be conveniently applied at home. While microdermabrasion exfoliates the skin, the skin care products more effectively reach the deeper layers of skin where they can produce the healthier complexion and skin texture you desire.
